Become part of a dynamic team at UNC Health, where our mission is to improve the health and well-being of diverse communities. This role offers a standard Monday-Friday schedule with flexible hours, including Monday-Thursday 8a-4:30p and Friday 8a-1:30p. Must be able to travel to multiple locations, including Knightdale, Cary, Garner, and Raleigh. Schedule changes and frequency of travel will be discussed and finalized with the Hiring Leader.
Key Responsibilities- Perform rooming and/or intake process, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
- Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review current medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacies.
- Assist providers as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures, including collecting specimens and performing phlebotomy.
- Administer medications under the direction of a provider and perform tests, such as EKGs and eye exams, under provider supervision.
- Review patient records to determine routine health screenings and ensure exam/procedure rooms contain necessary supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
- Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed and prepare, clean, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
- Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
- Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket tasks under provider or nurse direction.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
- Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
- Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
