POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of a designated supervisor, engage in critical life-saving activities aimed at safeguarding individuals and property; respond to urgent situations and provide both basic and advanced medical assistance to those in need, adhering to the standards of Paramedic licensure and accreditation. Responsibilities include the operation and upkeep of ambulances and medical apparatus, as well as participating in station upkeep and training initiatives to support the overarching goals of the Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbents will execute a comprehensive range of Paramedic functions under general oversight. Responsibilities encompass emergency scenarios and include:
  • Conducting routine maintenance tasks under the supervision of the on-duty Company Officer.
  • Responding to medical emergencies, ambulance requests, and public service calls.
  • Performing rescue operations and aiding in the medical treatment of the sick and injured, delivering appropriate basic and/or advanced life support in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participating in various job-related drills and training sessions.
  • Maintaining and submitting necessary records and patient care documentation.
  • Ensuring the proper utilization of all facilities and equipment provided by the Department.
  • Adhering to all policies, procedures, and regulations outlined in the Sanger Fire Department Employee Handbook and relevant governing codes.
  • Inspecting, cleaning, and servicing firefighting and medical equipment and vehicles, while also conducting fire hydrant maintenance and flow tests under supervision.
  • Assisting in the inspection of public and commercial properties for fire safety compliance; identifying code violations and potential firefighting challenges.
  • Engaging in additional Department programs and community education initiatives.
  • When necessary, responding to emergency calls during off-duty hours.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:
  • Local geography.
  • Methods of patient care relevant to the Paramedic scope of practice.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing emergency medical services.
Ability to:
  • Interact with co-responders, patients, and the public with professionalism and respect.
  • Familiarize oneself with city streets and addresses.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance while representing the Sanger Fire Department.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain necessary certifications and licenses.
  • Comprehend and follow departmental policies and instructions.
  • Arrive punctually for all assignments with required certifications.
  • Operate an ambulance safely in compliance with traffic laws.
  • Meet physical endurance and agility standards.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations.
EDUCATION

Equivalent to a G.E.D. or high school diploma.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid California Class "C" license with Ambulance Driver Certificate.
  • Responsible driving record.
  • Central California EMS Agency EMT-P Accreditation.
  • Valid BLS Healthcare Provider card.
  • Current ACLS and PALS Certification.
  • Medical Examiner's Card.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Mobility to kneel and bend; strength to lift patients with assistance; ability to work under stressful and emergency conditions. Variable hours or 48-hour shifts may be required, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Work may occur in various weather conditions, necessitating a clean and professional appearance while in uniform.
