Role Overview: What Does a Plant Care Specialist Do?

In the role of a Plant Care Specialist, you will be expected to be reliable, diligent, and capable of working autonomously. Your daily responsibilities will involve visiting various client locations to ensure the health and vitality of their plants through a series of specialized tasks, including grooming, rotation, and watering. A strong customer service orientation is essential, as you will be dedicated to providing optimal care for plants in professional settings.

This position encompasses three primary areas: (1) Plant maintenance, (2) Support for plantscape and hygiene service installations, and (3) Seasonal decoration installation.

Plant Maintenance and Air Quality Management

  • Conduct regular visits to client sites as per the established route plan.
  • Operate a service vehicle safely in both urban and rural environments.
  • Allocate up to 50% of your work time to driving.
  • Perform essential plant care tasks including watering, pruning, and fertilizing as required; clear debris from planters; accurately assess soil moisture levels using a soil probe.
  • Apply trained techniques to deliver the right amount of water based on lighting conditions and plant needs.
  • Maintain and communicate optimal light conditions and plant orientation.
  • Ensure that plants and their containers are clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Keep all plants healthy and free from pests and diseases.
  • Maintain the aesthetic quality of top dressing and other decorative elements.
  • Occasionally work from ladders up to 6 feet to reach and care for taller plants and living wall systems.
  • Prevent damage to surrounding areas from water and moisture.
  • Maintain scenting and air purification systems as necessary.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to our clients.
  • Build first-name relationships with clients to address their needs and check in on every service.
  • Identify and communicate additional product needs to foster business growth.
  • Complete electronic service reports to accurately document service activities.

Plantscape and Hygiene Service Installation

  • Assist with various plantscape installations, including interior and exterior container gardens, wall-mounted systems, and commercial plantscapes.
  • Safely load and unload materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with teammates to securely hang and mount wall installations.
  • Plant various vessels with a diverse selection of plants.

Seasonal Decoration Installation and Removal

  • Participate in holiday decoration installations, enhancing the interior and exterior of buildings as part of a team.
  • Assist with the removal of holiday decorations at the end of the season.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience in plant care is preferred.
  • Experience in client interactions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to operate a van or truck.
  • Capability to safely climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Familiarity with using pruners, scissors, and other sharp tools.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Base pay range: $17 - $20.58 per hour.
