Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer to join our team at the West Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating highways and their attendant facilities and structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise section activities and personnel in engineering and non-engineering areas
  • Visit projects and make on-site engineering decisions
  • Train and evaluate personnel to ensure quality work
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the activities of subordinate personnel
  • Review on-going work at major decision points with regard to problems or alternatives under consideration at that time
  • Investigate and respond to citizen complaints or requests
  • Represent the Department at internal and external meetings
  • Serve as a senior level with recognized expertise
Requirements
  • Current license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia
  • Six (6) years of highway engineering experience involving the design, construction, or maintenance of highways
  • Ability to supervise and plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of professional engineering staff
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with districts, divisions, industry, governmental units, public interest groups, and individuals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
