Our skilled physicians and advanced practice providers deliver a comprehensive array of primary and specialty care services. PHC is an integral part of Dignity Health Central Coast's acclaimed network of hospitals, imaging centers, laboratories, and post-acute services.

Responsibilities
The Patient Services Associate II role serves as the initial point of contact for phone-based customer service interactions with our patients, physicians, internal and external laboratories, imaging facilities, hospital staff, family members, and vendors. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, effective communication, and appropriate routing of phone calls and messages.

The Patient Services Associate may also undertake various additional tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Collecting and updating patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Verifying health plan eligibility.
  • Taking complete and accurate messages.
  • Scheduling appointments using an electronic practice management system.

Furthermore, the Patient Services Associate may be requested to perform other clerical duties as necessary to support daily clinic operations, benchmarks, and quality patient care initiatives in accordance with clinic guidelines.

This position may involve access to third-party credit card information and transactional systems, including cash registers and point-of-sale devices.

The duties of the Patient Services Associate II also encompass managing referrals and authorizations, pre-registration, and patient preparation.

PHC is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and service. We aim to cultivate cohesive teams where all employees collaborate effectively. While the job descriptions outline primary tasks and responsibilities, they do not limit staff from supporting the overall functions of the clinic.

Some Patient Services Associates and Front Desk Associates may be asked to perform tasks outside their usual assignments, particularly in smaller locations or to address staffing shortages. This team-oriented approach is essential to maintaining a patient-centered focus.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess:

  • One (1) year of experience as a Patient Services Associate I or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system.
  • Competency in medical terminology or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in GE with completed competency.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Keyboarding skills and the ability to utilize computer equipment and software.

Completion of a medical terminology class or equivalent experience is required.
