Position Overview

The Clinical Coach plays a pivotal role within the University of Maryland Medical System, providing essential clinical guidance and support to nursing staff in the NICU and pediatric units. This role is designed for a seasoned Registered Nurse who is committed to fostering a culture of clinical excellence and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities outline the primary functions of the Clinical Coach:

  1. Foster a supportive and psychologically safe environment that aligns with the principles of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).
  2. Guide and mentor the Orientation Team, enhancing their professional growth and teamwork capabilities.
  3. Facilitate the integration of unit practices and culture among new team members.
  4. Implement evidence-based wellness strategies to aid the Orientation Team in their professional development.
  5. Create opportunities for the development of professional identities among new nurses while refining the roles of experienced preceptors.
  6. Collaborate with the Orientation Team to establish effective time management strategies.
  7. Encourage meaningful discussions that promote diverse perspectives and enhance clinical practices.
  8. Support the Orientation Team in navigating ethically complex situations, ensuring integrity in decision-making.
  9. Design experiential learning activities that promote collaboration across professional disciplines.
  10. Assist the Orientation Team in incorporating concepts of social determinants of health, diversity, equity, and inclusion into their nursing practice.

Qualifications

  1. Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree.
  2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligibility for licensure through reciprocity.
  3. A minimum of one year of experience in a leadership clinical role.
  4. 1-3 years of clinical expertise in relevant nursing specialty areas.

Certifications Required

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
