Key Responsibilities:

•Ensures compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including the privacy and security of health information (PHI).

•Maintains the collection tray/container/bag and work area in a clean and sanitary condition and restocks as needed.

•Responsible for the procurement of supplies for the department in collaboration with the team lead.

•Performs all duties of a phlebotomist, including specimen collection, receipt, and send-outs.

•Prepares specimens for referral to external laboratories, including ordering miscellaneous tests, packaging specimens, arranging transportation, and managing referral documentation.

•Conducts all patient specimen collections, including venipuncture, capillary collection, urine drug screen collection, skin tests, and cultures.

•Ensures that specimen requirements are met during collection and maintains specimen integrity.

•Exhibits strong communication skills by effectively interacting with clients, patients, family members, nurses, physicians, and colleagues.

•Utilizes the laboratory computer system to document specimen information, patient registration, order entry, collection lists, and other assigned tasks.

•Completes other related duties as assigned (stand-by/on-call, inventory, special projects, cross-training, etc.).

•Conducts associate performance evaluations and annual competency assessments promptly.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, computer data entry, and organizational skills.

B. Experience

  • Preferred one year of phlebotomy experience.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Certification from a National Accredited Program preferred.
