Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Nuclear Mechanical Engineer to work on the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) upgrades project at Spectra Tech. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of nuclear technology, engineering design, and analysis.

The HFIR upgrades project is a critical initiative for Spectra Tech, aimed at enhancing the reactor's performance and safety. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing new installations and replacements of HFIR structures, systems, and components.

Responsibilities
  • Develop engineering designs for new installations and replacements of HFIR structures, systems, and components.
  • Perform calculations and analyses to support design basis and requirements.
  • Apply relevant codes and standards, such as ASTM, ASME, NQA-1, AWS, etc.
  • Support development of reactor core components replacement plan.
  • Prepare design specifications to define and determine acceptance criteria for component upgrades.
  • Implement modifications in accordance with RRD configuration control processes.
  • Lead fabrication, machining, and assembly of reactor core components, experiments, special tooling, etc. in accordance with HFIR specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain as-built documentation for assigned HFIR SSCs including engineering drawings, specifications, system description, relevant databases and labeling.
  • Provide project management for installation of mechanical design changes.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related discipline.
  • 10 or more years working at an operating nuclear reactor with engineering experience including but not limited to engineering design and manufacturing practice including welding and joining techniques combined with a sound understanding of machine design.
  • Strong understanding of ASME pressure vessel (Sections 3 and 8) and piping codes (B31.1) and application.
  • Familiarity with applicable DOE Orders and Standards, such as DOE O 420.1C, Facility Safety, DOE STD 1189, Integration of Safety into the Design Process, and DOE STD-1073-2016, Configuration Management.
