As the leader of the underwriting team, you will be responsible for guiding and developing team members while ensuring the department operates efficiently and adapts to changing needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee work assignments and monitor turnaround times for team members.
2. Support team members in delivering exceptional service to agents and enhancing the sales process to drive profitable growth.
3. Supervise and mentor team members, providing training, performance evaluations, and managing communications.
4. Utilize your underwriting expertise to cultivate specialty skills among senior and junior underwriters.
5. Stay informed on underwriting trends, products, and company changes, and share knowledge with the team.
6. Advocate for underwriting policies and objectives to underwriters, policyholders, marketing staff, and agents.
7. Offer technical guidance on application processing, endorsement, and renewal procedures.
8. Collaborate with management to establish objectives and procedures, analyze performance metrics, and implement improvements.
Qualifications:
Education:
Preferred completion of coursework leading to insurance designations, advanced degrees, or leadership training.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in underwriting or related insurance fields, ideally within commercial lines.
Skills and Knowledge:
1. Strong analytical skills to assess personal lines applications and recommend actions based on risk evaluation.
2. Ability to exercise independent judgment in making complex decisions that significantly impact the company.
3. In-depth knowledge of company policies and underwriting operations, applied in a supervisory context.
4. High technical proficiency in commercial lines underwriting standards and practices.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally at all levels.
6. Specialized focus on risk selection and underwriting in areas such as multi-line accounts, data analysis, and agency management.
