About the Role- The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating computed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for patients, ensuring high-quality images that aid in diagnosing medical conditions.
- Prepare Patients for Scans: Explain the procedure, answer any questions, and ensure patient comfort.
- Verify Patient Information: Confirm medical history, allergies, and prior imaging to ensure accurate diagnosis and proper imaging protocols.
- Position Patients Properly: Ensure patient safety and comfort during scans.
- Instruct Patients: Teach patients how to hold their breath or remain still during scans.
- Operate and Calibrate the CT Scanner: Ensure proper settings for each scan, including radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols.
- Administer Contrast Agents: Inject agents under physician or radiologist guidance to enhance image clarity.
- Monitor the Equipment: Ensure high-quality images are captured and no errors occur during the process.
- Review Images: Ensure all required areas are captured and images meet diagnostic standards.
- Work with Radiologists: Collaborate to ensure images are of sufficient quality to support diagnosis.
- Repeat or Adjust Scans: Improve image quality or ensure comprehensive imaging coverage as needed.
- FOLLOW SAFETY PROTOCOLS: Minimize radiation exposure to patients, utilizing the lowest possible dose for effective imaging and shielding where necessary.
- MAINTAIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT: Sanitize equipment between patients and maintain a sterile environment.
- ENSURE PROPER POSITIONING: Prevent risk of injury or discomfort during scans, especially for vulnerable patients.
- MONITOR PATIENTS: Alert physicians or healthcare providers if adverse reactions occur after contrast agent administration.
- WORK WITH HEALTHCARE TEAMS: Determine appropriate imaging procedures and assist in diagnosing medical conditions.
- DOCUMENT PATIENT INFORMATION: Record scan parameters, contrast media used, and complications in the electronic health record (EHR).
- PARTICIPATE IN PATIENT CARE PLANNING: Discuss with the team how to approach imaging in complex cases.
- Maintain, Clean, and Troubleshoot Equipment: Ensure everything functions properly.
- PERFORM ROUTINE INSPECTIONS: Check and calibrate CT equipment, alerting maintenance staff to malfunctions or unsafe equipment.
- KEEP EQUIPMENT USE LOGS: Document maintenance, repairs, and service performed on the CT scanner.
- FOLLOW RADIATION SAFETY PROTOCOLS: Protect both patients and staff, using shielding and adhering to dosage guidelines.
- ENSURE COMPLIANCE: Adhere to regulations, including HIPAA, safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines.
- STAY UPDATED: Stay current on changes to regulatory standards, including radiation safety and patient privacy.
- ACCURATELY DOCUMENT PROCEDURES: Record imaging procedures, patient information, and any adverse events or changes in patient status.
- ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH POLICIES AND REGULATIONS: Maintain accurate records compliant with hospital policies, medical record-keeping regulations, and industry standards.
- ASSIST WITH PATIENT FLOW: Provide quick turnaround times for imaging results when needed.
- PROVIDE EDUCATION: Educate patients regarding aftercare following contrast injections, potential side effects, and follow-up procedures.
- ADDRESS CONCERNS: Address patient concerns about the procedure, offering support as necessary.
- MAINTAIN PATIENT PRIVACY: Ensure patient dignity is maintained throughout the imaging process.
- PARTICIPATE IN CONTINUING EDUCATION: Stay current with advancements in CT imaging technology, protocols, and safety procedures.
- ATTEND TRAINING SESSIONS: Participate in in-house training sessions and seminars on new imaging techniques or equipment.
- MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION: Maintain professional certification and licensure, including continuing education requirements.
