Job Title: Certified Lactation Educator

The Certified Lactation Educator is a vital member of our team at Salem Hospital, Inc. This professional is certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) and plays a crucial role in providing lactation support and education to our patients, staff, providers, and breastfeeding mothers in the hospital and community.

Responsibilities:
  • Offer informational, emotional, and practical support of breastfeeding.
  • Act as a public advocate and ensure access to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
  • Act as a role model and change agent in supporting a breastfeeding-friendly culture within the hospital and community.
Qualifications:
  • Requires intense attention and concentration.
  • Good visual, verbal, hearing skills, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of personality types, ages, and diverse cultural backgrounds in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to utilize various computer programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual.
  • 2 years of experience working in a health-related field.
  • 2 years of experience as a Certified Lactation Educator, an RN in a maternal child health setting, or other health-related field.
Education/Degree:
  • Graduation from an associate degree program in a health-related field required.
  • Graduate from a BSN-accredited nursing degree program, licensure as a registered nurse to practice in the state of Massachusetts preferred.
Licenses, Certifications/Registrations:
  • Certification as an IBCLC by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required.
  • Member of the International Lactation Consultant Association preferred.
