Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatrist Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing administrative and clinical supervision to a team of psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all psychiatrists meet the standards established by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision to a team of psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure that all psychiatrists meet the standards established by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Maintain a half-time equivalent clinical caseload of diverse, complex, and high-risk individuals served.
  • Provide direct psychiatric services, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care of individuals served.
  • Administer or direct the administration of treatment using group, milieu therapy, and other psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
  • Evaluate exceptionally difficult cases and recommend disposition.
  • Act as chief of an important component of the total program, such as admissions, forensic, children's adolescent, in-patient, outpatient, or other comparable component.
  • Confers with and advises members of the medical staff, other agencies, relatives, and other interested persons on the care, treatment, and prognosis of individuals served.
  • Consults with physicians in other medical specialties when indicated for the well-being of patients.
  • Reviews reports of patients' laboratory tests to determine levels and effectiveness of medication.
  • Participates in developing and coordinating policies and procedures related to psychiatric services.
  • Interprets policies and procedures pertinent to the conduct of psychiatric treatment programs within assigned area.
  • Prepares, conducts, and signs employee performance evaluations.
  • Interviews prospective employees and recommends employee selection or ranks applications in terms of qualifications.
  • Approves leave.
  • Schedules work assignments.
  • Investigates and resolves or recommends solutions to complaints.
  • Reviews and identifies training needs of staff, initiates training recommendations, plans and conducts training, and demonstrates more efficient work methods.
  • Conducts team staff meetings for the discussion of the diagnosis, treatment, or discharge of individuals served.
  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Participates in quality assurance, and quality improvement studies, utilization review, risk management, and peer review activities.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with possession of a medical degree.
  • Successful completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
  • Five years of Psychiatrist experience, including two years of managerial experience in a medical environment, and one year of supervisory experience.
  • A current and valid license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of hire.
  • Eligibility for Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a psychiatrist at the time of hire.
  • A current Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency and American Board of Addiction Medicine certification.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with treatment of serious mental illness and substance use disorders in a community setting.
  • Experience with leadership and management of MD/NPs.
  • Experience and skills working with child and adolescents and older adults.
Physical Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, a Screening of National Practitioners Data Bank, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
