Certified Nursing Assistant

We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Long Island State Veterans Home, a 350-bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to the care of honorably discharged Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
Job DescriptionThis role involves providing high-quality and compassionate care to our residents, with a focus on their physical, emotional, and social well-being. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, and simple human needs.
Your duties will include:
- Attending to daily living activities, ensuring the comfort and dignity of our residents.
- Moving, positioning, lifting, and transporting residents using various lifts and aids to make them more comfortable and prepare them for treatment.
- Talking and listening to residents, responding to their needs, and encouraging cooperation and participation in treatment activities.
- Transporting residents and supplies as necessary.
- Maintaining residents' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Performing housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to ensure the clinical facility is clean, sanitary, orderly, and properly supplied.
- Participating in quarterly in-service education to maintain certification and meet regulatory requirements.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- NYS Nurse Aide Certification.
The ideal candidate will have:
- One year of healthcare experience.
- One year of long-term care experience.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You may be exposed to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and/or tissue, as well as unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries, and illness. You may also be required to handle emergency and crisis situations and work irregular hours due to multiple calls and inquiries.
