Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Geological Exploration Specialist is to facilitate gold exploration initiatives at and around the Haile gold mine and throughout the eastern USA. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Exploration Superintendent in defining, planning, and executing exploration initiatives aimed at extending the Life of Mine (LOM) and enhancing resource and reserve estimates.
- Overseeing and participating in geological tasks such as core and RC chip logging, drill logistics, sample collection, geological mapping, log review and reinterpretation, QAQC tracking, and reporting.
- Contributing to the development of 3D digital geological models and producing interpretive sections and planning maps.
- Identifying drill targets through a comprehensive geological understanding and applied deposit knowledge, including the interpretation of lithological, structural, mineralogical, geochemical, and geophysical datasets.
- Contributing innovative ideas regarding structural evolution and gold body genesis, supporting the research and development of new technologies.
- Assisting in the preparation of technical reports and documentation for various audiences.
- Demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement by optimizing systems, processes, and practices, while regularly identifying new opportunities.
- Ensuring robust QA/QC protocols are in place to maintain data quality and integrity.
- Promoting and adhering to Company values and best practices.
- Supervising and mentoring a team of geologists.
- Performing additional duties as required.
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Geology or a closely related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in precious or base metal exploration.
- Proficiency with industry-standard modeling and database software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, ArcGIS, acQuire) is preferred.
- Demonstrated geological interpretive skills utilizing lithological, structural, geochemical, and geophysical data.
- Experience in core logging and geological mapping.
- A solid understanding of mineralization models and geological processes.
- Knowledge of the economic aspects of mining operations and exploration projects.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building capabilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, community, and environmental stewardship.
- Eligibility to work in the USA is required.
- A valid USA driver's license is necessary.
- Fluency in English with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
- Occasionally required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
- May need to work early morning or evening hours to meet organizational needs.
- Work is conducted in a surface mine plant environment, which may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity.
- Personal protective equipment is mandatory when working in a mining environment, including hard hats, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and additional protective gear as necessary.
