Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans: Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and school administration to create and implement individualized education plans that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Implement Data Collection Systems: Design and implement data collection systems to accurately track student progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor and Redirect Student Progress: Regularly monitor student progress and redirect as needed to ensure students are meeting their academic and behavioral goals.
  • Teach Subject Matter: Deliver high-quality instruction in subject areas, utilizing the course of study adopted by the school district and the Board of Education.
  • Develop Lesson Plans: Create and adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students, utilizing effective teaching techniques to promote student learning.
  • Engage Students in Learning: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and motivation.
  • Provide Feedback and Evaluation: Provide regular and timely feedback to students, evaluating their academic and personal growth and preparing progress reports as needed.
  • Establish and Maintain Standards of Student Behavior: Develop and implement strategies to establish and maintain high standards of student behavior, promoting a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Utilize Least Restrictive Behavior Interventions: Implement least restrictive behavior interventions to support skill development in students, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
  • Support Transition Planning: Collaborate with students, parents, and school staff to develop transition plans and goals for post-secondary education and training.
  • Model and Train Program Staff: Serve as a model and trainer for program staff, providing guidance and support on the implementation of specific programs and procedures.
  • Collaborate with School Team Members: Work collaboratively with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively, promoting a cohesive and supportive educational environment.
  • Utilize Technology and Classroom Support Equipment: Effectively utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment to enhance student instruction and learning.
  • Maintain Classroom Organization and Discipline: Establish and maintain a well-organized and disciplined classroom environment, promoting a safe and supportive learning space.
  • Communicate with Parents and Staff: Communicate regularly with parents and school staff, discussing student progress, attendance, and behavior, as well as interpreting school programs and policies.
  • Supervise and Direct Paraprofessionals: Supervise and direct paraprofessionals, providing guidance and support to ensure effective student instruction and support.
  • Establish and Maintain Effective Working Relationships: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and parents, promoting a positive and collaborative educational environment.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Participate in school and district behavior trainings, including Mandt, to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with social emotional learning needs.
  • Coordinate with Outside Agencies: Collaborate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities, as needed, to support student learning and well-being.
  • Manage Student Files: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student files, ensuring compliance with district, USBE, and IDEA guidelines and regulations.
  • Demonstrate Professional Ethics: Adhere to professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission, promoting a culture of integrity and accountability within the educational community.
Qualifications
  • Degree and License Requirements: Hold a valid Utah Special Education K-12 license (mild/moderate or severe).
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and Mobility: Able to lift up to 50 pounds and assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time.
  • Quick Body Movements: Utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to Participate in Trainings: Willing to participate in and utilize required trainings, such as Mandt and van certification.
