Role Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Medical Assistant will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care within our clinical laboratory environment. This position involves monitoring vital signs, ensuring accurate patient identification in medical records, and performing various examination room tasks. Additionally, the role includes drawing blood for diagnostic analysis and other medical purposes.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Assistant Duties:

  • Monitor patient vital signs and gather intake information.
  • Conduct clinical procedures, including blood draws, vaccinations, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, and EKGs.
  • Evaluate patient needs and provide relevant education and resources.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of examination rooms for procedures.

Laboratory Assistant Duties:

  • Prepare equipment following established protocols for specific tests and procedures.
  • Interview patients and donors to confirm their identity for blood sample labeling.
  • Guide patients and donors through the procedures, addressing any questions they may have.
  • Adhere to all standard protocols for blood collection and seek supervisory assistance when necessary.
  • Properly dispose of used materials in designated containers.
  • Provide post-procedure instructions to patients and donors.
  • Complete ongoing training to ensure compliance with position requirements.
  • Conduct quality control checks, including daily temperature monitoring and routine testing controls.
  • Prepare end-of-month reports for the Laboratory Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is mandatory.
  • Current BLS certification is required upon hire.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a medical assistant is necessary.

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent composition and proofreading abilities.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or English/Arabic) is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret various forms of instructions, including written, oral, and visual formats.
  • Knowledge and experience in phlebotomy are essential.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Commitment to handling confidential information with professionalism and ethics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.

Compensation: $32.55 per hour, based on experience.
