Job Description

Fox Valley Technical College is seeking qualified candidates to teach General Biology as part of our adjunct faculty team.

Job Summary

General Biology introduces students to fundamental biological concepts and principles, with an emphasis on cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, and taxonomical relationships. The course also explores diversity among various kingdoms from an environmental perspective.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and implement effective instructional strategies, including alternative delivery methods when appropriate.
  • Assist and advise students with academic matters, including assignments, tests, grades, and career concerns.
  • Research, develop, and administer skills assessments to evaluate student performance.
  • Promote student success through timely communication, growth-based feedback, and implementation of strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, and providing grades on a timely basis.
  • Meet professional expectations by maintaining professional currency and contributing to a collaborative culture across the College.
  • Attend division, department, and advisory committee meetings as requested.
  • Participate in staff development activities, such as diversity awareness, technology training, and other relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications

Instructors teaching General Studies college credit courses must have:

  • A Master's degree in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • A Master's degree AND 18 graduate credits in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • A Master's degree AND appropriate licensure in the discipline or subfield they teach.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in delivering instruction through alternative methods, such as online courses in a synchronous or asynchronous modality.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, particularly Blackboard, Collaborate, Microsoft Office, Teams, OER's, and other programs that promote student success.
  • Ability to maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation, and collaborative techniques.
  • Skilled in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.

  • Skilled in communications and human relations with diverse populations.
  • Skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to effectively interact with business and industry to establish partnerships and address needs.
