Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Meat Wrapper to join our Meat Department team. As a Meat Wrapper, you will be responsible for wrapping and displaying meat products in a clean and attractive manner, while providing excellent customer service and ensuring the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Greet all customers and respond to their questions and requests in a courteous and professional manner.
  2. Use product knowledge to sell meat products to customers at the case.
  3. Identify and weigh wrap package meat products in a clean and attractive package.
  4. Write down customer special orders and requests.
  5. Prepare and organize the cooler, freezer, and backroom areas for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks, verify merchandise against invoices, inspect deliveries for quality, shortages, and damage, sort cases for stocking or product preparation, and code date products.
  6. Clean department floors, mirrors, cases, racks, tables, coolers, freezers, department equipment, product preparation areas, and shelves, safely using cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  7. Load stocking carts and pallets, transport cases and products to the sales floor, cooler, freezer, or product preparation area, match case strips to shelf tags, open cases, place merchandise in designated cooler, freezer, case, shelf, or display positions, check product codes and freshness dates, and face and rotate the front row of each display.
  8. Assure the safety of self, customers, and coworkers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying supervisors of any potential hazards immediately.
  9. Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substitute for absent workers, and perform additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers during peak business periods.
  10. Understand the operations, safety requirements, and restraints of balers, case cutters, pallet jacks, intercoms, pricing guns, grinders, tenderizers, saws, knives, slicers, scales, wrappers, smokers, and other equipment.
  11. Count and record individual items of merchandise for inventory.
  12. Change department pricing on the scale system as directed and manually price mark and label merchandise without UPC codes.
  13. Evaluate product quality and move damaged, unsalable, and returnable products from shelves to the backroom for reprocessing or marking down in price.
  14. Use proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to products.
  15. Remove trash from aisles and product preparation areas and operate balers.
  16. Change signs, light bulbs, shelf signs, and price markers on cases and shelves.
  17. Communicate with department managers on problems, recommendations for change, and merchandising ideas.
  18. Check case and cooler/freezer temperatures three times daily.
  19. Record out-of-stock conditions and report to department managers.
Requirements and Qualifications:

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  1. Basic mathematical ability and ability to count.
  2. Able to give and receive complex verbal instructions and descriptions to and from supervisors, coworkers, and employees concerning store and department policies, procedures, and equipment use.
  3. Able to pass a basic physical examination and drug screen.
  4. A stable work and educational history.
  5. The ability to read and write English, including reading instructions, merchandise labels, warehouse order codes, numbers, reports, printed paper invoices, and order forms.
  6. Make judgments concerning the placement of merchandise on shelves, case opening procedures, extent of unsalable product damage, conversations with customers, selling of products, display of products, use of packaging materials for products, quality of products for display, and ordering of processed items.
  7. Able to open cases and stock products so that they will not be damaged.
  8. Able to clearly price mark and label products for customers and cashiers.
  9. Good interpersonal communication skills.

Prior experience in a related job and operating equipment such as balers, case cutters, cleaning and sanitation equipment, pallet jacks, intercoms, pricing guns, grinders, tenderizers, saws, knives, slicers, scales, wrappers, and smokers is preferred.
