Job Summary

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Library is seeking a highly skilled Digital Archivist to join its Special Collections team. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, stewarding, and providing access to the library's digitized and born-digital materials. This is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of cultural heritage materials and to contribute to the development of innovative digital collections and services.

Key Responsibilities

The Digital Archivist will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures for the stewardship and access of digitized and born-digital materials. This will include working closely with library staff to increase capacity for processing, arranging, and describing digitized and born-digital materials. The successful candidate will also be responsible for partnering with stakeholders throughout the library to enhance existing digitization infrastructure and to develop digital access strategies that leverage the use of baseline description as a tool to improve the discoverability of digital materials.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, the Digital Archivist will need to have a strong understanding of standards and best practices for digitization and description of cultural heritage materials. They will also need to have experience with archival technologies and tools related to appraising, accessioning, processing, preserving, and providing access to born-digital archives. In addition, the successful candidate will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the library.
