Senior Transmission Engineer

Join Burns & McDonnell as a Senior Transmission Engineer and lead the design of complex transmission line projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for project technical oversight, providing technical expertise, and leading technical design staff.
Responsibilities:- Lead transmission design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements.
- Perform and oversee PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis to develop load trees, and develop design criteria.
- Develop specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission lines.
- Lead development of construction drawings and cost estimates for high and extra high voltage overhead transmission lines.
- Lead calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or GO 95 or other applicable codes and resources.
- Communicate the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards.
- Review transmission equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
- Manage change orders effectively.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects and find non-standard design solutions.
- Perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Lead construction support from an engineering perspective, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
- Report project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the transmission engineering practice.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Ensure QA/QC process adherence.
- Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Comply with company and site safety policies.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Engineering a plus.
- 7 years transmission engineering experience.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
- Proficiency in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
- Expert knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Design software and tools, including Bentley Power Line system based programs.
- Proficiency in industry codes and standards, including NESC, GO95, ASCE 74, ASCE 48-11, or ASCE 10-97.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
