Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Amentum (Jacobs ESSCA Group). As a key member of our Structural and Mechanical Design and Analysis team, you will be responsible for providing design support for the Space Launch System (SLS) program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide structural and mechanical design support for flight hardware, including adapters and secondary structure.
  • Work with large assembly and subassembly models in support of the SLS program.
  • Manage large Computer Aided Design (CAD) files from contractors and in-house activities using Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Provide support in the development, review, and implementation of changes in SLS program documentation.
  • Design support for SLS Block 1 and Block 1B activities, including model building and production of design drawings for adapters and other critical composite structures.
  • Participate in reviews, meetings, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), boards, working groups, and trade studies related to hardware.
Requirements:
  • A degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred.
  • Typical experience requirements are the equivalent of a PhD with at least 4 years of experience, an MS with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.
Skills and Experience:
  • Familiarity with launch vehicle systems, including structures, separation systems, propulsion, thermal protection system performance, debris impact, pyrotechnic systems, etc.
  • Experience with structural design methods, test philosophy, and methodology, material behavior, fabrication methods.
  • Experience reading and interpreting 2-D drawings, including design tolerances.
  • Experience with CREO.
  • Capability of functioning in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers with expertise in thermal design and analysis, materials, aero-sciences, manufacturing, and producibility.
  • Capability of working with external teams, including propulsion systems, reaction control systems, engine systems, avionics, quality control, ground support system, safety, and mission assurance.
