Job Title: Library Project Cataloguer

Join the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco team as a Library Project Cataloguer, working closely with the Head of Library and Archives to ensure accurate description of library resources and improve discovery. This fixed-term position is a grant-funded role with a three-year term, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to the mission of the library and archives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Original and Copy Cataloguing: Perform original, complex adaptive, and copy cataloguing in various formats, including monographs, serials, pamphlets, ephemera, and rare books, maintaining records for library materials to facilitate access and discovery.
  • Metadata Work: Correct, update, and maintain OCLC holdings data, ensuring records align with institutional standards and professional best practices, including RDA, MARC21, OCLC, and LCSH. Work within OCLC WorldShare and support metadata creation for other platforms.
  • Collection Analysis: Assist in backlog inventory projects and the ongoing deselection or storage of the collection, supporting large initiatives, including retrospective reclassification of collections to support collection analysis, maintenance, and preservation.
  • Training and Development: Develop training materials and documentation for library staff in the application of metadata standards and cataloguing policy and procedures, workflows, and local practice.
Requirements:
  • MLS/MLIS/MSLIS from an ALA-accredited program
  • At least 2 years post-MLS cataloguing and technical services experience in an academic, special, or public library
  • Experience with cataloguing tools and systems, such as OCLC's WorldShare, and knowledge of cataloguing standards and best practices
Working Conditions:
  • Work in a compressed stacks environment, lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds, and performing tasks that require standing, walking, sitting, and using hands
