The sanitation specialist is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing designated areas, which includes tasks such as mopping, dusting, and waste disposal.

Additional responsibilities may involve window cleaning, event setup, pool maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, and other related tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains the YMCA's appearance and cleanliness by completing all tasks outlined in the daily schedule and ensuring the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. Responsibilities may include wet and dry mopping, floor buffing, dusting, waste removal, recycling, window cleaning, pool maintenance, painting, vacuuming, and general cleaning.
  • Operates necessary motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Documents and reports all required repairs; performs repairs as instructed.
  • Ensures the security of YMCA facilities and property during shifts and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Restocks soap, paper towels, and other supplies as needed.
  • May assist in setting up furniture for events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred experience of six months or more in a related field.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Capability to report and document maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of the maintenance and care of equipment.
  • Familiarity with cleaning agents and chemicals, including their safe and effective use.
  • Certifications required within the first week of employment: Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Communications.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of employment: YMCA-approved basic life-saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must possess sufficient physical strength and agility to perform essential duties.
  • Ability to use ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in various forms.
  • Capability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to work in environments that may generate dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance tasks that may include reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, and working in confined spaces.
