Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Bronson Methodist Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory team by performing pre-analytical and post-analytical functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping.
  • Provide customer service duties by answering laboratory phone calls and providing support to staff performing clinical testing.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 months of prior patient care experience in a healthcare environment, or formal training in phlebotomy or basic medical laboratory functions.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory information systems and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and medical terminology, with excellent human relation skills, including verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and take initiative, with a positive attitude and ability to work in a changing environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 6 months of prior patient care experience in a healthcare environment, or formal training in phlebotomy or basic medical laboratory functions.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory information systems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and medical terminology.
  • Excellent human relation skills, including verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment

This role involves working in a laboratory setting, with considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less), and some fatiguing physical motions required.

Shift and Time Type

This is a full-time position with a variable shift and 40 scheduled weekly hours.

Cost Center

This role is located in Cost Center 3306 Lab Support Services (BMH).
