JOB OBJECTIVE

The Automation & Controls Engineer for XPS Foam will be instrumental in collaborating with manufacturing facilities and stakeholders within the XPS Foam sector. This role is responsible for managing medium to large-scale capital projects and offering technical assistance to the XPS Foam production teams, focusing on operations, maintenance, and process enhancement.

The Engineer is expected to foster advancements in safety, efficiency, and product quality while minimizing expenses and ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Key responsibilities include converting operational needs into engineering calculations, specifications, and design documents; preparing procurement documentation for equipment and installation contracts; facilitating system start-up and support; and evaluating options to maximize capital investment returns through innovative technologies.

The Automation & Controls Engineer will serve as a Subject Matter Expert on XPS Foam processes, uphold operational intellectual property for equipment and system design, support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives, assist production sites, and ensure compliance with safety systems related to blowing agents. The Engineer will also contribute to the maintenance strategy for spare parts and define essential spare parts for key process equipment. Additionally, the Engineer will assist in research and development trials, product innovation, and the introduction of new machinery.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Capital Delivery Engineering Leader for XPS Foam

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Location: Hybrid work schedule
  • Travel: May require travel based on project needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage electrical project execution for capital initiatives to ensure adherence to design principles and budgetary constraints.
  • Supervise contract engineering teams to guarantee quality in design and commissioning efforts.
  • Promote a zero-injury culture during capital projects by prioritizing safety in design and execution.
  • Implement sound engineering practices to achieve project goals.
  • Oversee all phases of capital projects, including funding requests and compliance with project specifications.
  • Ensure timelines from project inception to commissioning are consistently met.
Lead and manage electrical technical enhancements to boost product quality, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Follow safety protocols and standards during the implementation of new processes.
  • Adhere to all relevant safety policies and procedures.
  • Direct electrical components of multiple concurrent projects by collaborating with engineering firms, including scope definition, cost estimation, and resource coordination.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards.
  • Utilize effective project management methodologies to guide project execution.
  • Ensure all projects align with operational expectations and budgetary guidelines.
Provide expert consultation on key control applications related to XPS Foam.
  • Deliver technical support to manufacturing operations, maintenance, and R&D teams.
  • Assist plant personnel in troubleshooting control systems.
  • Ensure proper configuration and programming of PLC/HMI controls for optimal performance.
  • Promote electrical safety through compliance with standards and reliability measures.
  • Act as a technical expert within the division.
  • Provide technical and process support to essential business functions.
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline

Five years of experience in electrical engineering project management

Three years of experience in a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in continuous manufacturing processes

Leadership experience in a matrixed organization

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant electrical codes
  • Experience in developing project scopes, cost estimates, and evaluating contractor proposals.
  • Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess situations and implement solutions effectively.
  • Adept at utilizing data for decision-making to reduce manufacturing losses.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing work demands.
  • Strong planning and resource management skills.
  • Proven ability to achieve results both independently and through team collaboration.
  • Extensive knowledge of motor control systems, programmable controllers, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming, Siemens TIA portal, and other relevant software.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in equipment testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
