Important Information from the Agency

This position is open to U.S. Citizens and individuals eligible under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) within the local commuting area.

Key Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Applying principles of sampling design to establish comprehensive ecological monitoring initiatives.
  • Leveraging expertise in marine ecology to develop detailed monitoring protocols for various ecosystems, including seabird and rocky intertidal habitats.
  • Collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders and demonstrating leadership in meetings and team settings.
  • Executing data entry tasks and conducting quality assurance checks on data collected by others.
  • Analyzing intricate datasets to ascertain and interpret the significance of research findings.

Employment Conditions

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Compliance with the Selective Service Registration Act is required for male applicants.
  • The selected candidate will need to enroll in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • There may be a requirement to operate a government or private vehicle as part of job duties, necessitating a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • New federal employees or supervisors must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • A one-year trial period may also be required.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary, up to two nights per month.
  • A government charge card for travel purposes will be required.
  • Training may be necessary to obtain and maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be fulfilled by the closing date of this announcement unless otherwise specified.

Credit will be awarded for all relevant experience. To receive credit, your resume must clearly outline the nature of duties and responsibilities for each position, including employment dates and hours worked.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

For 0401 Series: Degree: A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related fields pertinent to the position.

OR

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in the fields mentioned above, along with relevant experience or additional education.

Additional Qualifications:

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-9 level in the Federal service, which includes activities such as: independently conducting ecological or biological studies, performing standardized tests and analyses on biological samples, managing monitoring and restoration projects, and developing reports using GIS technology.

Education:

To qualify based on education, candidates must submit transcripts that include their name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and GPA or class ranking.

If using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, candidates must provide evidence that their education has been evaluated and deemed equivalent to U.S. standards.
