Job Summary

The City of Clearwater, FL is seeking a skilled Pool Lifeguard to join our team as a Variable Employee. As a lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and non-swimmers using our municipal pools. This is a temporary position that requires flexibility and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guard, monitor, and watch community patrons in and around the pool, ensuring all safety standards and rules are upheld.
  • Perform lifesaving techniques, first aid, and skilled guarding practices.
  • Provide consistent and professional customer service for pool patrons and community members.
  • Maintain, clean, and perform general upkeep duties for pool facilities.
  • Operate pool pumps, apply pool chemicals, and perform daily and weekly maintenance tasks.
  • Process payments and transactions, manage facility care, and ensure efficient and timely care of community needs and safety issues.
Requirements
  • A valid State driver's license is preferred.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguarding Certification from a nationally recognized aquatic training agency is required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous pool guard, swimming instructor, or related work experience.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor - New Material Certificate is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Customer service and engaging with pool patrons.
  • City aquatics programs, classes, and activities.
  • Facility maintenance and organization.
  • Pool pumps, pool chemistry, and backwashing knowledge.
  • First Aid, CPR, and general first responder care.
  • General aquatics policies and procedures.
  • Computers, RecTrac software, and general office equipment.
