Job Description

TRC Companies is seeking a highly skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to join our team in the Northeast region. As a key member of our Client Teams, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing commissioning activities for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate commissioning activities, including pre-commissioning, construction, testing, and project close-out, in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents in advance of projects and outages.
  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment.
  • Participate in project meetings, including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, and lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation, including project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
  • Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or other assigned project-specific documentation.
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment, and develop a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents, and that all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed, and distributed properly.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or university.
  • 5+ years of related experience with testing and commissioning services, with Electric Utility experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings, one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams.
  • Prior professional experience in medium and high-voltage substation and power plant equipment, with basic apparatus testing and interpretation of test results with supervision.
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, with commissioning activities and interpretation of results with supervision.
  • Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS is highly preferred.
  • Current US work eligibility and a valid USA driver's license issued by the state of residence and in good standing are required.
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time and work flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and team members.

Compensation:

In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program, which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators that vary by year and employee.
