About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with mild to moderate special education needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans in collaboration with parents and department team members.
  • Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities, promoting their educational, physical, and social development.
  • Design and deliver instruction, both individual and small group, that parallels the general education curriculum.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans that meet students' needs.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Coordinate the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) with general education staff, monitoring student progress and participating in review and revision of student IEPs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate student records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, promoting a culture of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Support students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills, assessing their skills and educational needs, and tracking their performance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining positive relationships and a supportive learning environment.
  • Follow School District policies and procedures, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred).
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred).
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching (preferred).
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching (preferred).
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching (preferred).
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred).
  • Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable).
  • Current CPR (if applicable).
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable).
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to job site).
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit and provide information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, coworkers, clients, via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
