We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant 3 to join our team at the State of Tennessee. As an Accountant 3, you will be responsible for performing all aspects of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and grants administration functions of the department.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare, review, and execute financial transactions relating to travel claims, invoices, journal vouchers, grants, warrant cancellations, payroll, state payment card, refunds, and deposits.
- Perform all fiscal functions of grant administration, including transacting, reviewing, monitoring, and reporting on state and federal levels.
- Research, analyze, prepare, and process complex accounting journal entries to ensure proper recording of all financial transactions.
- Collaborate with other divisions within the department to ensure all cash, check, and credit card transactions are recorded properly in external software systems and are reconciled with our accounting system of record (Edison).
- Prepare, process, and review refunds and charge-backs associated with revenue transactions.
- Interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations for internal and external customers to facilitate compliance and explain financial transactions and reports to non-accounting personnel in response to complex questions.
- Effectively communicate accounting and financial concepts to internal and external customers to convey understanding.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting and experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
- Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) will be given preference.
