Lead Protection and Control Engineer

This opportunity provides a hybrid work model, allowing you to work in the office three days a week while enjoying the flexibility of remote work for two days.
As a Senior Protection & Control Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in protective relaying and control systems tailored for distribution and high voltage substations. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing protection and control schematics along with wiring diagrams for various substation modifications and enhancements to meet client specifications.
- Formulating protective relaying philosophies, which encompass the selection of relays, control systems, communication equipment, and SCADA configurations.
- Engaging in complex assignments that involve diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving diverse substation protection and control challenges.
- Reviewing designs prepared by others, focusing on single line diagrams and substation relaying and metering diagrams.
- Participating in peer-learning opportunities, sharing insights with fellow engineers through Sargent & Lundy’s structured processes and “Communities of Practice.”
- Mentoring junior engineers to foster their professional development.
- Potential travel to client and vendor locations for design evaluations and project site visits for construction oversight and verification of designs.
Essential skills and experience include:
- A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems or controls from an ABET-accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of experience specializing in protection, control, and telecommunications for high voltage substations, covering design, installation, and coordination.
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and principles necessary for creating technical plans, blueprints, and models.
- Knowledge of design codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Experience with various vendor protective relay equipment commonly utilized in substation protection.
- Strong skills in MS Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Experience in in-line, bus, and equipment protection, as well as control systems for breakers, transformers, and similar equipment, including RTU and SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Experience in construction and startup processes.
- Testing or commissioning background.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
