Job Title: Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist

As a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation, which is essential for delivering high-quality care and improving health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert-level review of inpatient clinical records to identify gaps in clinical documentation and ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with providers and other healthcare team members to improve clinical documentation and ensure that it accurately reflects the clinical treatment, decisions, and diagnoses for patients.
  • Utilize clinical expertise and clinical documentation improvement practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Develop and implement physician education strategies to improve clinical documentation and ensure that providers understand the importance of accurate and complete documentation.
  • Work closely with the HIM Coding Professionals to ensure that clinical documentation is accurate and complete, and that coding and CDI processes are aligned.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of acute care hospital clinical RN experience or Medical Graduate with CDI experience and CDI certification (CCDS, CDIP).
  • Experience communicating and working closely with physicians.
  • Proficiency using a PC in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Electronic Medical Records.
  • Ability to work onsite at a hospital location in San Luis Obispo, CA, full-time (Monday - Friday) in a daily patient and physician-facing capacity.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSN degree if RN.
  • CCDS, CDIP, or CCS certification.
  • Experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement.
  • CAC experience (Computer-Assisted Coding).
