Canine Behavior Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Canine Behavior Specialist to join our team at Petco. As a key member of our pet care center, you will play a vital role in enhancing the bond between pet parents and their canine companions.

About the Role
You will be responsible for providing world-class dog training services, including one-on-one training sessions, group classes, and customized training plans. You will also engage with guests to provide personalized solutions for their pets' unique needs. Your expertise in modern dog training techniques and positive reinforcement methods will help pet parents develop well-behaved, happy, and healthy dogs.
Responsibilities
- Provide World Class Dog Training Services:
- Attend and successfully pass Petco's 6-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program.
- Recommend and sell appropriate dog training classes, training, and supplies.
- Keep accurate records of training sessions and progress.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Provide 360-Degree Solutions for All Petco Guests:
- Provide an outstanding guest experience by actively engaging with guests.
- Generate future business through a deep understanding of the guest and their pet(s).
- Demonstrate a high level of awareness and knowledge for the health, welfare, and proper handling of all animals.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Prior experience working with dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and work with dogs safely and humanely.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Familiarity with computer systems and software to manage training records and schedules.
Certification Requirements
All candidates must complete the 'Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP)' to become a certified Petco Dog Trainer. This program includes a 6-week instructor-led learning and development phase.
Basic Qualifications
You must have a passion for animal care, training, and welfare, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Prior experience working with dogs is essential, and you should be able to handle and work with dogs safely and humanely. Strong organizational skills and familiarity with computer systems are also required.
Salary
The estimated annual salary for this position is $45,000-$60,000, depending on location and experience.
