Position Summary:
This role is open to both MTs and MLTs. Eligible candidates may participate in our Clinical Laboratory Incentive Program.
The Medical Lab Technician will conduct various patient tests and administrative tasks to support clinical operations within the UNC Health Care System.
Key Responsibilities:- Process specimens directly and perform Gram stains.
- Conduct rapid antigen testing for various pathogens.
- Engage in rapid molecular/PCR testing for respiratory viruses and other conditions.
- Utilize Total Lab Automation instrumentation for efficient lab operations.
- Ensure quality control of instruments, reagents, and media.
Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 PM - 7:00 AM (4 x 10-hour shifts)
Additional Responsibilities:- Investigate equipment issues, test results, and workflow challenges.
- Participate in special projects or team initiatives.
- Provide training for Clinical Laboratory Science students and new staff.
- Maintain quality control and perform routine laboratory tests.
- Prepare specimens and reagents as necessary.
- Report findings to healthcare professionals and ensure accuracy in results.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements to sit for the MT exam within 12 months of hire.
Licensure/Certification: Candidates must obtain MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification within 12 months of hire.
Experience: No prior experience is required.
