Job Title: Substitute Security OfficerJob Summary:
The Substitute Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors on campus. This includes providing support to the instructional process, minimizing the frequency and severity of harmful incidents, and communicating observations and incidents that may impact the well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:- Analyze activities that may be in violation of school policies or indicate possible criminal activity, assisting law enforcement personnel and developing information for determining action.
- Assist community law enforcement personnel, such as K-9 drug searches of backpacks and lockers, to support their work activities within the school environment.
- Collaborate with school and district personnel, police officers, and local agencies to provide information and take action regarding investigations, criminal activities, and gang activities for the safety and security of the school site.
- Communicate safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors to ensure their understanding and potential consequences of violation.
- Deliver sensitive documents, such as board packets and testing materials, to ensure their security.
- Escort students, assigned personnel, and visitors to provide direction, ensure their safety, and provide site security.
- Intervene in potential conflicts and emergency situations to minimize disruptions to campus activities and injury to involved parties.
- Issue parking stickers to control and monitor access to staff and student parking areas.
- Maintain various files and records, such as schedules, investigations, and guidelines, to ensure the availability of information for future reference and audit for compliance with established policies.
- Monitor student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events to ensure student compliance with established guidelines, maintain a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
- Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, department, and public safety workshops to develop proficiency, convey, and gather information required to perform job functions.
- Prepare various documents, such as incident reports, activity logs, memos, letters, procedures, and other related documents, to document activities, provide written reference, and convey information.
- Provide traffic and parking control to maintain efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots.
- Recommend policies, procedures, and actions to school administration to provide information and direction for ensuring campus security.
- Refer incidents, including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, and other related incidents, to appropriate site personnel to ensure follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security, and student safety guidelines.
- Respond to various situations, such as accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, and other related incidents, to take the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and security concerns.
- Respond to inquiries from various sources regarding campus security issues to provide information, direction, and referral for addressing inquiry.
- Transport students to provide transportation to home following a decision by school administration that a student's removal from campus is appropriate.
- Job-related experience is desired.
- Targeted, job-related education with study in a job-related area is desired.
- Six months of experience in the Security field, public or private entity, is required.
- CPR/First Aid Certificate.
- Valid Driver's License and Evidence of Insurability.
- Public Safety Drug Identification/Evidence Gathering.
- Public Safety Security Training.
This is a non-exempt support staff position with a salary schedule of Grade E Step 1.
