Houseperson (Full Time/Seasonal) - Event Service Specialist

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing exceptional service to guests in a friendly and efficient manner while adhering to established service standards. The Houseperson (Full Time/Seasonal) will be responsible for set-up, serving, and bussing duties for events and outlets assigned. This role may also include buffet set-up, replenishment, and tear down, as well as storage at the end of the event. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Banquets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guests with the best in service, courtesy, and care.
- Follow all policy, procedures, and service standards.
- Check Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) at the beginning of each shift and throughout each event to ensure correct set-up and service are being done to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Set-up includes table place settings, chairs, tablecloths, silverware, and other guest-related items such as name tags or gifts.
- Serve beverages, drinks, and appetizers or check coats as required.
- Coordinate with the kitchen to ensure the entire table can be served at one time.
- Keep the event moving forward, being cognizant of the agenda while providing and servicing the event.
- Serve guests and bus tables to BEO and/or company standards in an efficient manner while maintaining a positive customer service attitude.
- Bus tables continuously throughout the event and serve beverages to guests as set by BEO specifications and/or company standards, removing dirty plates and glasses and taking dirty items to the kitchen for cleaning.
- Monitor functions for signs of intoxicated guests and report to the manager or supervisor.
- Perform post-event duties after guests leave, such as removing centerpieces and linen, and putting event items for laundry or storage as appropriate.
- Perform other duties throughout the property in outlets as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Basic reading skills needed to properly read and follow BEOs.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, and kneel, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours.
- Ability to work inside/outside in a variety of weather conditions, including the ability to withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Must be able to frequently bend/stoop and occasionally squat and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to reach above shoulder and carry upwards of 10 meals on a tray.
- Previous food service experience preferred.
- Alcohol certification preferred, but if not, must have the ability to attend and pass the company-provided training session within 30 days.
- Possess James City County or approved online food handlers card or the ability to obtain within 30 days from hire.
- Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within service times established by the company.
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
