Job Summary:
Tradesmen International, Inc. is seeking a skilled Marine Shipfitter to join our team in Newport News, VA. As a Marine Shipfitter, you will be responsible for laying out and fabricating metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing them into position within the hull of a ship for riveting or welding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing them into position within the hull of a ship for riveting or welding
- Position parts in the hull of a ship, assisted by a rigger
- Align parts in relation to each other, using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls
- Mark location of holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting
- Install packing and gaskets, liners and structural accessories and members, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips
- Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of non-standard parts
- Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding
- Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines
Requirements:
- Able to read blueprints or templates
- Tools for the trade
- Proper PPE
- OSHA 10 is preferred
