Position Overview:
Sonnets Academy is in search of a dedicated and skilled individual to fill the role of Early Childhood Kitchen and Food Preparation Specialist. This position can be either full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time, focusing on maintaining a nurturing environment for our young learners. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of local health regulations and experience in a supportive kitchen setting (cooking is not required).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the health and nutrition of children by adhering to sanitation standards set by the Chicago Department of Public Health and DCFS.
  • Prepare and portion nutritious snacks and meals that are catered in, while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Manage inventory and supply levels for both perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as necessary paper products.
  • If employed full-time, assist as a Multi-Room Assistant Teacher for 1-2 hours daily, supporting classroom activities for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years under the guidance of Lead and Associate Teachers.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Chicago Department of Public Health Certified Food Service Manager License.
  • Current physical examination, TB test, and immunization records.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in an early childhood kitchen setting.
  • Compliance with all City and State licensing requirements.
