Purpose of Position:This class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty in the field of psychology, providing psychological services to individuals and groups across various settings. Ensures patient-centered quality care and services in support of better outcomes and improved patient experience, in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychological standards of care.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate individuals' emotional and intellectual functioning through clinical interviewing and/or standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity.
- Maintain suitable records and files of test performance and treatment results.
- Prepare reports of psychological findings which may be included in clinical case histories, files, etc.
- Consult with psychiatrists, social workers, judges, and other relevant parties regarding the diagnoses, prognoses, and recommendations for the disposition of individual cases.
- Attend and participate in psychological and general staff conferences.
- Participate in individual and group research by evaluating initial summarization and quantitative treatment of data, and preparing research reports for publication.
- Provide psychological consultation services on non-clinical issues, and offer psychological consultation services to other City agencies.
- Participate in treatment programs administering psychotherapy.
- Provide neuropsychological and vocational assessments.
- Prepare commitment papers, including write-ups and documentation for cases.
- Give instruction or training in psych diagnostic and/or therapeutic techniques.
- Oversee the work of psychology interns, social workers, and paraprofessional mental health workers.
- Contribute to the formulation of hypotheses and details of the research design.
- Testify in court or at other hearings.
- Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, PsyD, EdD) in Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program, accepted by the NYSED.
- Valid limited permit to practice as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
- Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED must be obtained within two (2) years of appointment to title.
