Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing temporary educational support to a group of children in a childcare setting. The Substitute Teacher will assist the regular staff in maintaining a safe and healthy environment, promoting social and emotional development, and establishing positive relationships with families.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain a clean and organized learning environment, adhering to center rules and regulations.
  2. Implement engaging activities that foster self-esteem, cultural diversity, and problem-solving skills.
  3. Provide positive guidance techniques, encouraging children to express their feelings and work through problems.
  4. Establish a warm and welcoming atmosphere, greeting children and families with a smile and friendly manner.
  5. Collaborate with staff to ensure a smooth transition of care and education.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; CDA or degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, interact with children, and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building positive relationships with families.
Work Environment

The Substitute Teacher will work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment, with a focus on maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children and staff. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on providing high-quality care and education.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Sheltering Arms evaluation policy, with a focus on providing excellent care and education to children and families.
