POSITION TITLE: Early Childhood Support Specialist (10.5 months per year) FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Lead Educator/Director or Site Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Support Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing environment for children, overseeing various activities and ensuring safety during play. This position involves stepping in as the Lead Educator when necessary, mastering all responsibilities associated with managing a classroom, including documentation and lesson plan execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Design, implement, and facilitate a structured lesson at least once monthly, with increased frequency as proficiency develops.
  2. Conduct daily center activities, such as circle time and science exploration, while collaborating with the Center Director and Classroom Educator.
  3. Work in partnership with the Center Director and Classroom Educator to maintain a serene classroom atmosphere that promotes effective early childhood learning without physical discipline.
  4. Execute childcare routines in a timely, hygienic manner, adhering to child development principles, including hand washing, meal times, and transitions.
  5. Assist children during meal times, ensuring adherence to the philosophy of family-style dining where children serve themselves, with both the Support Specialist and Educator present at the tables.
  6. Guarantee the safety of children through vigilant supervision, thoughtful arrangement of the environment, and regular emergency preparedness drills.
  7. Collaborate as a team member to ensure curriculum continuity and uphold high standards of equality in the classroom, providing individualized support to children as needed.
  8. Manage documentation for half of the children's files across all content areas.
  9. Complete Individual Development Plans for each enrolled child, maintaining ongoing assessments and records.
  10. Observe and report on children's behaviors, sharing insights with fellow staff members as appropriate.
  11. Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  12. Upon completion of the initial probationary period, Support Specialists are expected to pursue and obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Center Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma or GED. A Child Development Associate credential is required by a specified date.
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
SKILLS: A warm, supportive demeanor towards children and parents is essential. Reliability and flexibility in adapting to program changes are crucial. Willingness to accept guidance for performance improvement is expected.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Professional appearance and conduct are mandatory. A valid Class C driver's license and reliable transportation with current insurance are required. Completion of a physical screening within a specified timeframe post-hire, along with maintaining CPR and First Aid certifications, is necessary. Compliance with all organizational policies and maintaining confidentiality is expected.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional irregular hours required. Out-of-town travel may be necessary.
