Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal Specialist III to join our team at the Office of the Attorney General. As a key member of our Statewide Prosecution unit in Orlando, Florida, you will play a critical role in supporting our attorneys in the preparation and presentation of cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and summarize complex legal information, including statutes, financial records, and legal decisions.
  • Conduct online research using commercial research applications and draft legal documents, including federal habeas procedural histories, discovery requests, and witness lists.
  • Prepare exhibits for hearings, depositions, and trials, and coordinate service of process and subpoenas.
  • Summarize deposition and trial transcripts, and examine and analyze briefs, petitions, and evidence of alleged or suspected violations of laws or regulations.
  • Assist with preparation of cross-designation documentation for attorney appearances, and attend court proceedings and trials with attorneys as needed.
  • Conduct legal research as directed, and prepare legal documents for out-of-state and international proceedings.
  • Supervise and train other paralegals, legal assistants, and support staff as needed, and perform related work as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year accredited training program to become a legal assistant, paralegal, legal paraprofessional, or lawyer's or attorney's assistant.
  • A degree or certificate in legal technology, legal administration, legal studies, or criminal justice.
  • Law school degree from a law school in the United States, or upon management approval, from a law school outside the United States.
  • Four years of experience performing the duties of a paralegal or legal assistant, and four years of experience as a paralegal beyond experience used to substitute for education requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Florida Registered Paralegals or Certified NALA Paralegals.
