Position Summary
The Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse operates under the guidance of the Department Manager and Clinical Coordinator. This role is pivotal in executing the nursing process, leveraging extensive knowledge and experience. The nurse is tasked with delivering patient care that is tailored to various age groups, addressing their biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs, along with those of their families or support systems. The Cardiovascular OR Nurse is adept at managing patient care in complex, urgent, emergent, and life-threatening scenarios. Additionally, this nurse coordinates activities within the surgical suite, prioritizing and directing the surgical team during critical situations with confidence. This position also involves participation in staff development and personal professional growth. The nurse serves as a role model and leader, guiding others in their patient care responsibilities and organizational support while being self-directed. This is a full-time role that may require functioning as a circulator or surgical technician during peak surgery hours, with on-call duties required during weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
1. Coordinates the delivery of perioperative patient care, ensuring a high standard of patient safety.
2. Collaborates with healthcare team members to plan effective patient care.
3. Maintains current CPR certification and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
4. Provides patient care that is appropriate for various age groups.
5. Fosters a positive work environment and promotes team spirit.
6. Supports students and staff by providing a nurturing environment.
7. Acts as a professional role model and liaison among physicians, patients, families, and staff.
8. Upholds fiscal accountability for human and material resources.
9. Engages in performance improvement initiatives to enhance quality care.
10. Documents patient care accurately and legibly in accordance with departmental guidelines.
11. Advocates for shared governance and evidence-based practices.
12. Functions independently across a wide range of surgical specialties.
13. Maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of professional development annually.
14. Manages the surgical specialty flow and cost containment effectively.
15. Strives to integrate Wellstar Standards of Gold into daily activities.
16. Peer evaluations may be required.

Required Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.

Required Licenses and Certifications
1. Registered Nurse (Single State) - Required upon hire.
2. RN - Multi-state Compact - Required upon hire.
3. Basic Life Support - Required upon hire.
4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Required upon hire.
5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Preferred.

Required Minimum Experience
1. A minimum of one year of experience in Cardiovascular OR is required, including CVOR residency experience preferred.
2. Sufficient experience in a cardiovascular specialty to function in a team leader capacity and serve as a resource for peers is preferred.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in circulating roles is preferred.

Required Minimum Skills
1. Comprehensive knowledge of current trends and techniques in Cardiovascular surgery.
2. Ability to multitask using critical thinking skills to anticipate the needs of surgeons and surgical teams.
3. Capable of prioritizing patient care in emergency situations.
4. Current CPR certification and participation in annual safety and infection control programs are essential.
5. Availability for emergency call coverage during weekdays, weekends, and holidays is required.
6. Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English are necessary.
7. Demonstrates strong organizational skills and basic keyboarding proficiency.
8. Flexibility in hours and shifts is essential to meet ongoing patient care needs.
