Job Summary

College of the Canyons is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to join our team. As a part-time instructor, you will be responsible for teaching ESL courses to students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction.
  • Effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
  • Adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class.
  • Self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Integrate new technologies into the learning process, including interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Requirements
  • Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in English as a Second Language.
  • A bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages.
  • A bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language.
  • A bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified above; and one year of experience teaching ESL in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language.
  • Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Teaching to English Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Working Conditions

Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday classes. Noncredit Enhanced Salary Rate: Starting at $88.30.
