Position Overview:
Assist the Director of Nursing Services in the strategic planning, development, organization, implementation, evaluation, and management of daily operations within the nursing service department, ensuring compliance with current regulations and guidelines governing long-term care facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Participate in the formulation, maintenance, and revision of written policies and procedures that dictate the daily operations of the nursing service department. Address and resolve issues and concerns related to resident and patient care, including family dynamics. Ensure that reference materials (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nursing stations are up-to-date.

Provide recommendations to the Director regarding written materials that support the nursing service department in meeting the daily needs of residents. Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual to ensure it is current and accurately reflects the nursing care procedures implemented by the facility.

Engage in the development, maintenance, and execution of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department. Undertake administrative tasks such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as necessary. Conduct nursing assessments to determine the health status of residents and develop care plans based on these assessments.

Daily Operations:
Conduct daily rounds of the nursing service department to verify that all nursing personnel are fulfilling their responsibilities in accordance with established nursing standards. Report findings to the Director and perform nursing assessments regarding residents' health statuses. Inform the Director of any delays in physician visits.

Review nursing documentation to ensure it is comprehensive and accurately reflects the care provided, as well as the residents' responses to that care. Authorize the use of restraints when necessary, adhering to established policies and procedures. Provide health education to patients and their families.

Training and Development:
Assist the In-Service Director/Educator in creating annual training programs for facility staff, covering topics such as OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, and Infection Control.

Assessment and Care Planning:
Participate in the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of nursing needs for each resident. Collaborate with the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including the implementation of RAPs and Triggers. Help develop written care plans that identify residents' needs, outline the care to be provided, set goals, and designate responsible professional services.

Encourage resident and family involvement in the care plan development and ensure all personnel involved in resident care are informed of the care plan. Ensure nursing staff refer to the care plan prior to administering daily care.

Collaboration and Compliance:
Foster good relationships with all services involved in the care plan to ensure a collaborative approach to developing comprehensive care plans. Participate in quality assurance activities and adhere to scope of practice limitations based on qualifications. Complete required documentation in accordance with company policies and state and federal regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position involves assisting in the overall supervision of nursing staff. Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited nursing program with a preference for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Candidates must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintain all necessary continuing education and licensing requirements. A minimum of 1-3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive feedback. Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies. Must maintain the care and use of supplies and equipment, ensuring the maintenance of work areas.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this role require occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds, prolonged use of a desktop or laptop computer, and regular sitting, standing, walking, and talking. Frequent use of office equipment, including copiers, scanners, faxes, telephones, and calculators, is expected.

Work Environment:
