Job Overview

Position Title: Grounds Maintenance Assistant

Position Summary: The Grounds Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the grounds maintenance team by executing various outdoor upkeep tasks. This includes the installation, repair, and replacement of playground and other fixed outdoor features. The role involves operating light landscaping machinery and performing regular cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment used in grounds care. Additionally, the assistant may assist in basic carpentry and structural tasks as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conducts both routine and specialized grounds maintenance tasks as instructed, which encompasses lawn care, garden upkeep, grass trimming, and managing ornamental plants.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces playground equipment and other anchored outdoor installations, assessing work orders to determine necessary actions.
  • Operates light landscaping machinery, including lawn mowers, hydro-seeders, and woodchippers.
  • Maintains cleanliness and functionality of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Performs basic fence repairs as required.
  • Collaborates with other departments, accepting and executing various maintenance tasks as directed.
  • May provide assistance to more experienced grounds maintenance personnel in executing outdoor maintenance duties.
  • Undertakes additional related responsibilities as necessary.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Basic education with some high school experience, sufficient for performing fundamental reading and math tasks.
  • A minimum of three to five years in grounds maintenance or a related field.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Physical requirements include frequent sitting, talking, seeing, and hearing, with occasional standing and walking. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
