Position Overview

This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding and active engagement in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center.

Employing the nursing process and clinical practice standards, the RN, Clinical Nurse II is accountable for directing, delivering, and coordinating nursing care for observation and/or outpatient surgical patients in alignment with the policies and procedures of the Observation Care Unit.

Key responsibilities encompass directing unlicensed personnel, synthesizing patient information, conducting patient assessments, planning care, implementing treatment plans, and evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.

The RN must communicate effectively and document pertinent data related to patient care.

Understanding patient age, cultural diversity, and psychosocial/spiritual needs is integral to developing the patient's care plan.

The RN plays a role in promoting quality nursing care through performance improvement processes that yield positive patient outcomes.

Additionally, the RN collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and to achieve desired patient outcomes.

The RN is required to participate in the call rotation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process and established practice standards as a framework for managing patient care.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrates leadership in coordinating patient care across the healthcare continuum to meet desired outcomes.
  • Delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Exhibits knowledge of clinical information systems and applies principles to patient documentation.
  • Develops a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates its effectiveness, including family involvement as necessary.
  • Acts as a role model and mentors new staff members.
  • Integrates knowledge of job-specific competencies into practice.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements a self-development/professional growth action plan that includes peer review.
  • Recognizes subtle and obvious patient issues and reports them to appropriate resources, considering multidisciplinary team members and/or Chain of Command.
  • Addresses the age-specific needs of all populations served: adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Contributes to a safe and effective working environment.
  • Interacts positively and constructively with others.
  • Prioritizes and manages multiple tasks effectively.
  • Maintains punctuality and attendance.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directives.
*Placement in the pay range is determined by various factors, including relevant experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications

  • Current CA RN license required
  • BSN required
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Current ACLS certification required
  • Current PALS certification required
  • One year of acute care experience in Medical Surgical or Telemetry in an acute setting is required.
  • EKG certification required
  • NIH certification preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
