Position Summary: The Culinary Arts Educator, Savory plays a pivotal role in enhancing the customer experience by guiding them through their culinary adventures. This position combines culinary expertise with instructional skills to support the Resident Chef in achieving business objectives. The Culinary Arts Educator reports directly to the Resident Chef.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplifies and directs team members to uphold customer service excellence.
  • Delivers an outstanding cooking class experience utilizing provided recipes and instructional plans.
  • Maintains up-to-date product knowledge and actively seeks additional training resources as needed.
  • Ensures a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the cooking experience.
  • Guarantees that all food items are prepared and served at the appropriate temperatures and in sanitary conditions.
  • Collaborates with a high-performing team to meet store sales targets and strives to achieve individual and class sales goals.
  • Communicates Sur La Table policies and standard operating procedures effectively to all employees.
  • Provides immediate coaching and feedback to Kitchen Assistants and addresses performance issues with the Resident Chef.
  • Identifies opportunities to boost cooking class attendance and retail sales.
  • Accurately records hours worked in compliance with company policy.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves issues, following up with the Resident Chef as necessary.
  • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills with employees, customers, and management.
  • May be responsible for serving alcoholic beverages and preparing cocktails as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Resident Chef.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong verbal communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate the workspace effectively while coaching and assisting participants.
  • Skill in distinguishing various flavors and aromas.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and demonstrating cooking techniques.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules for class instruction.
  • Proficiency in using computers and point-of-sale systems.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 35 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in kitchen operations.
  • Culinary degree in Savory or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in teaching and training.
  • Valid Food Handlers and/or Food Managers Certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales and motivate teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
