Job Summary

The University of Maryland Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) is seeking a highly organized and safety-conscious Shuttle-UM bus driver to transport students, staff, faculty, and guests. As a representative of UMD DOTS, the successful candidate will provide quality customer service and ensure the safe operation of transit vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate medium and heavy-duty commercial passenger vehicles, transporting passengers along assigned routes or designated point-to-point service.
  • Ensure passenger safety at all times, serving as an informational source and providing assistance as needed.
  • Represent UMD DOTS by providing exceptional customer service and being respectful of the surrounding community.
  • Adhere to assigned bus schedules, follow code of conduct policies and procedures, and handle emergency situations while transporting passengers.
  • Perform daily and routine safety checks of equipment prior to and during use, reporting any defects or maintenance issues.
  • Maintain a clean and neat vehicle.
  • Ability to be available to work on weekends, early mornings, and nights.
  • Attend meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.
Requirements
  • One year of driving experience.
  • General knowledge of the care and operation of motorized equipment.
  • Skill in driving buses in all kinds of weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to assist passengers.
  • Ability to problem solve and respond appropriately to a variety of complicated passenger and driving issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year in the operation of medium or heavy-duty commercial passenger vehicles.
  • Required valid Maryland Commercial Class B Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and not restricted for airbrakes.
Additional Information

Employees will be subjected to drug and alcohol education and testing as required under Federal Highway Administration and the State of Maryland regulations.
