Bedford County Public Schools Transportation Specialist

As a School Bus Driver with Bedford County Public Schools, you will provide safe and efficient transportation for students. You will model a positive attitude that has a positive impact on students and the educational programs of the county.
Essential Duties- Avoid accidents by following all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations pertaining to pupil transportation.
- Maintain an orderly atmosphere for the students riding the school bus.
- Report incidents of misconduct in writing to the appropriate school principal.
- Ensure the bus is clean inside and out.
- Perform pre-trip inspections of the school bus prior to each morning and afternoon bus run.
- Notify the Bus Shop of needed repairs promptly.
- Inspect the bus interior after each bus run for vandalism, left items, or students remaining on the bus.
- Maintain regular service schedules for assigned buses.
- Stick to prescribed routes and schedules, picking up and discharging students only at authorized stops.
- Contact the Transportation Department before making changes to routes or schedules.
- Attend workshops, safety meetings, and other called meetings.
- Complete reports and time schedules accurately and promptly.
- Only transport authorized passengers.
- Maintain open and cordial relationships with students, parents, co-workers, and administrators.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Minimum Qualifications- Meet DOT, DOE, Commonwealth of Virginia, and Bedford County requirements for driving a school bus.
- Possess a Valid Commercial Driver's License with endorsements.
